Upon release the wine is bright ruby in colour. There is a teasing array of vibrant red fruit on the nose including raspberry, pomegranate, cherry and plum. Spice and herbal notes, as well as a savoury underlay, add to the wine's complexity. While the palate has generous fruit weight and velvety tannins, it is balanced with refreshing acidity and a structure that gives the wine classic North Canterbury tension and pinosity.

This wine has a star bright lemon hue and while lemons, limes and mandarins come to the fore, there is a background of ripe stonefruit such as peaches and apricots. Honeysuckle and honeycomb influences come from botrytis, which has also made the wine more full bodied and concentrated. It has a spine of natural acidity and tingling minerality that helps draw out the palate structure to a citrus zest finish

Upon release it has a subtle lemon hue. The bouquet is vibrant, an intoxicating assortment of tropical and citrus. Heady aromas of passionfruit and pineapple flirt temptingly against a backdrop of grapefruit, green apple, lemon peel and a hint of gunflint. The mouthfeel is textured yet precise, with a rousing whip of acidity and simmering phenolics that give the wine increased structure and length. A complex and serious Sauvignon Blanc, displaying intense varietal character, a multi- faceted palate, and a long salivating finish.

In this traditional French blend the sauvignon blanc has given a complex range of exotic aromas and flavours suggestive of lychees, paw paw, Turkish musk and passionfruit, backed by hints of gooseberry and dried wild herbs. The Semillon has added complementary lemon and lime flavours and help fill out the midpalate providing weight and depth.

With each vintage release the cool-climate Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz provides an interesting counterpoint to the more opulent and richly concentrated warm climate Bin 28 Shiraz. Bin 128 comprises fruit sourced from the unique terra rossa red clay over limestone soils of Coonawarra, a region that exemplifies the perfume, transparency and seductive nature of cool-climate red table wines. Coonawarra has remained the source of Shiraz fruit for Bin 128 since the inaugural release of the 1962 vintage. To further enhance the regional qualities of Bin 128, the wine is matured in a mixture of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads, élevage that was refined during the 1980s when the transition was made from American to French oak. The palate is medium-weight, relative to the likes of the warm climate Bin 28 Shiraz. The blue fruits noted on the nose are quite apparent on the flavour profile. However, the wine is orientated towards the savoury end of the spectrum. Cured meats, pepper, olives and paprika flavours vying for attention. On further inspection, almond kernels and cardamom add to the allure. The tannins are silken, finely woven around the fruit. The acid line is as neat as a pin. Everything is in the right place, a lovely wine now with decades of potential for those who can wait.

True to its Coonawarra roots, this vintage exhibits a distinctive ferrous red grip on the palate - a hallmark of the region's famed terra rossa soil. Mineral undertones add depth without detracting from the wine's approachability. Firm grippy tannins are well integrated, providing structure while allowing French oak spice nuances to emerge gently alongside hints of cola. Cedar spice weaves through the profile, joined by tart cranberry and redcurrant flavours. Subtle inflections of white pepper mix with classic cigar box aromas and a dusting of paprika for added dimension. Rounded out by a suggestion of rare roast beef that lingers on the finish.

Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is a sub-regional expression that is unmistakably Penfolds in character. Conceived from the ancient soils around the township of Marananga, located very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley. The warm dry conditions, rich red clay and sandy loam soils provide the backbone to some of the Barossa Valley's best-known wines. Bin 150 is a contemporary shiraz alternative, a sub-regional offer framed by a mix of oaks; French and American, old and new, small and large - crafted the 'Penfolds way'. As we have come to anticipate, satsuma plums and boysenberries provide a varietal/regional signature. Grippy, ripe and rich tannins anchor a tightly structured frame. Freshly sawn oak. Rye sourdough crust - still hot out of the oven. Toasted pumpkin seeds on grilled haloumi. Sarsaparilla, black cardamom pods and ethereal nutmeg spice.

Bin 2 was first released in 1960, yet was discontinued in Australia in the 1970s at the height of the white wine boom. The original Bin 2 was an 'Australian Burgundy' style (despite its Rhône varieties) - typically a soft, medium-bodied wine based on Shiraz. The Bin 2 blend of Shiraz and Mataro is still relatively uncommon in Australian table wines. Also known as Monastrell or Mourvèdre, Mataro was introduced to Australia in the 1830s. Sometimes used in fortified wine production, this grape is widely planted in the Barossa Valley. It is greatly valued by winemakers for its blending attributes, adding complexity and palate grip.

The climate of the Barossa Valley is not dissimilar to the warm, dry regions of Europe where the origins of the Grenache can be traced. The region is held in very high regard for this varietal and boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia. The 2024 Bin 21 release immediately captivates with a bright and alluring perfume of floral notes and exotic spice. With fruit sourced from Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, it delivers a harmonious balance of freshness and structure. Bin 23 derives its name from Cellar 23 at Magill Estate, where Pinot Noir barriques are often stored during maturation. Reflecting an evolving style, regional definition, and complexities of the many and varied Pinot Noir clones, Bin 23 Pinot Noir is an elegant, lighter-bodied inclusion in the Penfolds Collection. The 2024 vintage reveals vibrant raspberry fruits, savoury charcuterie nuances and bright acidity, framed by fine texture and cool-climate precision. Sourced from Tasmania, where ideal conditions yield grapes of purity and distinction. A savoury, cured meat quality enhances the wine's structure, providing a textural mouthfeel, while a tannic core of graphite provides further backbone. The fruit profile is both refined and elegant, showcasing an array of dark berries, fresh plums, and stone fruits. The wine's youthfulness is highlighted by bright white raspberry and tart cranberry. The acidity is crisp and lively.

The palate texture is suggestive of cocoa powder while being framed by just enough savoury oak to add structure without dominating. Leading with black fruit characters, it progresses with dark plum and hints of gamey richness (roasted venison). Baking spice notes and a delicate icing sugar dusting add nuance without tipping into overt sweetness.
