Subtle oak characters of cinnamon and cedar add to the overall complexity.

For TWR's main blend of Pinot Noir they prefer the flavour profiles from the southern side of Marlborough - this sub-region is called the Southern Valleys or Southern Clays. The soil types in this area of Marlborough are much older than the Wairau flood plain, they also have much lower fertility and a much higher clay component which gives the wines more depth and structure.

This SV5182 Pinot Noir is a special selection of the best parcels from the eight different clones currently producing on TWR's home vineyard. Year after year as the vines mature, TWR are seeing an increasing depth and complexity in the wines and they have chosen to showcase that with their SV Pinot Noir.

High in the hills of Central Otago, the Mysterious Diggings vineyard is drenched in sun and comprised of rocky terraces heavy with native schist, imbuing its Pinot Noir namesake with a fragrant sensuality and a tingling minerality.

A highly perfumed, layered nose of blackberry, blueberry and dried strawberry unfolds with pomegranate, bramble, liquorice, thyme, exotic spice and orange peel. Intense and complex, the palate reveals black cherry and crushed strawberry interwoven with warm spice, star anise and a deep mineral seam of crushed rock and earth. Powerful yet composed, the wine carries beautifully integrated tannins and a lively line of acidity that bring both tension and precision.
