It has aromas and flavours suggestive of blackberries, raspberries, purple plums, vanilla pod, cigar-box and liquorice. On the palate there is a dense core of bright, ripe, mouth-filling fruit which is supported by an ample tannins.

Very French and lively on the nose, bouquets of good dry crunchy fruit with characters of supple spice, apples and subdued cinnamon, peachy elements and sweet smelling clovey punch. Straight onto the palate with crisp apple and nectarine flavours, heightened profiles of rich cashew and toasty, yeasty brioche, simple almond characters with complexities of mint, confectioned citrus and vanilla.

Ironclad shows dark fruits; plums and berries, wildflowers, crushed rock, and iodine, all creating a complex and lifted aroma profile. The palate shows good density which is balanced with coastal freshness and finishes with a core of powerful tannins. A rare dominance of Merlot over Cabernet Franc gives the wine good early accessibility but clearly a wine suited to ageing.

Appellation: The vineyards are the largest of the northern Rhône appellations. They cover 11 communes in the Drôme "département", on the left bank of the river Rhône. Dreadnought Syrah is very classical in style, lifted red fruits with a dark edge of graphite and pepper along with savoury stem derived characters make for an intense and interesting aroma profile. The palate is very linear but vibrant carrying good weight and concentration but also a lively streak from the stem inclusion that makes the finish seem fresh and lithe.

Named in honour of a Thorn family ancestor, William Randell Shiraz is the only single vineyard Shiraz produced by Thorn-Clarke and is sourced from the older Kabininge Vineyard. This wine is only produced in exceptional years, and in very small volumes equating to less than 1% of total production. With fruit quality and intensity second to none, this wine is aged for 22 months in 100% new French and American oak. Black and inky in colour, the complexity and concentration evident on the nose and palate are amazing. Cellar up to 15 Years.
